450 People Benefits From Free Medical Outreach in Three Communities.

-

A two-day free medical outreach targeting about four hundred and fifty persons in three communities of Baram, Baram Gada and Tashar Mai Alewa in Bauchi local government area has commenced, as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Tuberculosis Day.

The medical outreach organized by the Bauchi State Ministry of Health, through the State’s Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDs Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria, BACATMA, with support from USAID’s Breakthrough Action Nigeria, conducts free screening and testing for tuberculosis, HIV/AIDs, Hepatitis, malaria and other related diseases.

On arrival at Baram village, about ten kilometers away from Bauchi town, the Deputy Director Tuberculosis Control Programme, BACATMA, Haruna Manyau briefed the Village Head of the community on the essence of the exercise.

“As part of activities lined up to commemorate this year’s World TB Day, we have identified three communities of Baram, Baram Gada and Tashar Mai Alewa to conduct free screening, testing and sensitization on Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDs, Malaria, Hepatitis” Manyau explained.

Haruna Manyau said Tuberculosis was the main focus of the exercise as part of activities to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day, with the theme: “The Clock is Ticking”.

According to him the communities were chosen based on the 2020 finding that the areas have the highest reported cases in the state.

“The choice of these communities was not done without reason because our findings indicate that most of those found with TB and received treatment in 2020 were from this axis” he said.

The Deputy Director Tuberculosis Control Programme, BACATMA called on people of the areas to cooperate with the team of health and sensitization workers to enable them discharge their assignments.

Responding, the Village Head of Baram, Malam Munka’ila who expressed support to the team appreciated the state government, BACATMA, Breakthrough Action Nigeria and other supporting partners for identifying the communities for the conduct of the outreach.
