Farmers-Herdere Conflict: Bauchi State Govt’t to Implement Recommendations to End Crisis

-

Bauchi state Governor Bala Muhammad has assured of full implementation of recommendations of the administrative Committe of inquiry into land dispute between farmers and herders before rainy season to avoid continuation of the incessant Farmers-Herders conflict.

He also called on the herdsmen across the country to embrace dialogue as a means of proving to the nation that they are peace loving Nigerians.

The Governor made this known at the official launching of this year’s Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign organized by the state ministry of agriculture in collaboration with the federal ministry of agriculture and the World Organization for Animals Health held in Bauchi.

Speaking at the occasion Bala Muhammad said implementation of the committee’s recommendations would provide lasting solution to the problem noting that his administration will ensure Justice in implementing all it policies and programmes.

Bala Muhammad said the influx of herders migration from the neighboring states has neccessited the speedy action to ensure both the farmers and herders are fairly treated to guarantee peaceful coexistence.

While encouraging the herders to avail themselves with opportunity of the vaccination, Bala Muhammad said the state government spent over thirty million in naira in ensuring over eigt hundred thousand livestock animals are vaccinated during the exercise.

The representative of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria Dr. Olaniran Alabi said the vaccines were distributed to states across the country under the National Livestock Transformation Programme.

Earlier the Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development. Pharmacy Samaila Burga said the state government has introduced a number of programmes aimed at providing conducive environment to livestock farmers.

The Commissioner however called on the government to consider recruitment of more extension workers who will be guiding farmers across the state with a view to achieve food security.
