Bauchi State government partners UNESCO to train Women, Youth, Adolescent Girls and Qur’anic Schools Students on Basic literacy and Vocational Trades.

Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education BASAME is to establish adult literacy classes, youth and adolescent girls learning centres, integrated Quranic Schools as well as Women and Girls vocational literacy centres for the commencement of UNESCO School Meet the Learner Approach SMLA Project in six participating local government areas of the state.

The local governments are Bauchi, Alkaleri, Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Warji and Katagum.

The Overseeing Executive Secretary of the Agency Alhaji Ali Gambo stated this during an advocacy, enrollment and distribution of learning tablets to twenty two facilitators for the SMLA project at Azare Katagum local government area of the state.

Alhaji Ali Gambo said six hundred Women and Girls would be enrolled and literacy learning centres established in all the wards in the area.

He urged the local council to sensitize parents and stakeholders on the objectives and importance of the project to enable them become self reliant and literates.

Earlier, the Board Chairman BASAME Umar Babayo Kesa who called for continued support to all programmes and policies of government, urged people in the area to embrace the project towards reducing the number of illiterates in the area.

Responding the Chairman Katagum local government area Alhaji Abdullahi Kuda represented by his deputy Shehu Garba promised to ensure success of the project.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria some of the facilitators, Fatima Adamu and Ummi Tata expressed their readiness towards reducing the number of illiteracy aming women in the area.
