Six hundred Women and Girls in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi State to undergo training under UNESCO’S School Meet the Learner Approach SMLA Project.

About Six hundred Women and Girls in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi State are to undergo training under the School Meet the Learner Approach SMLA UNESCO project.

The Board Chairman Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education BASAME Alhaji Umar Babayo Kesa disclosed this while presenting learning devices for onward distribution to the beneficiaries at Alkaleri.

Alhaji Umar Babayo Kesa said Alkaleri local government has the highest number of out of school children in the state, hence the need for stakeholders to work towards addressing illiteracy in the area.

Speaking, the Overseeing Executive Secretary UNESCO SMLA Project Alhaji Ali Gambo said the project which is targeted at uneducated Women, Girls, and Youth from Tsangaya Qur’anic Schools, is for a period of nine months.

Alhaji Ali Gambo disclosed that the agency will collaborate with Al Muhibba foundation in training the girls and women on various skills trade to reduce poverty.

Responding, the Chairman Alkaleri local government Alhaji Yusuf Garba represented by the Supervisory Councillor Education and Social development Yunusa Alhaji Usman who restated the council’s commitment to reducing the level of illiteracy in the area, called on the facilitators to use their experiences in handling the tablets to achieve the desired result.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, some of the facilitators Abigail Maikano and Nuru Abdu promised to follow all laid down guidelines towards ensuring that poverty and illiteracy are reduced among the beneficiaries.

Highlight of the occasion was distribution of the learning devices to the facilitators.
