Yellow Fever: Bauchi Gov’t Clears Misconception

-

Bauchi state government has debunked misconceptions from some quarters that the ongoing Yellow Fever massive vaccination exercise is for Covid 19.

It also says it is expecting additional one point five million vaccines from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to boost the Yellow Fever vaccination across the state.

The Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed stated this during a Mini Flag Off of the exercise, held at Tirwun, an outskirts of the state capital.

Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed who said Covid 19 vaccine is yet to arrive in the country, noted that before administering it to Nigerians it must undergo serious scrutiny by NAFDAC.

On procurement of additional one point five million vaccines for the ongoing Yellow Fever vaccination exercise, he said the decision was necessary considering the state’s estimated population which currently stands at 7.5 million and the target to be vaccinated against the disease had been increased to seven million against the initial 6.4 million.

The Executive Chairman who explained that the vaccine is for people between the ages of nine months and 44 year, called on parents to massively come out with their children to access the vaccine, adding it is safe with no harmful content.

He commended the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF for supporting the state with a lot of money to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exercise and pledged continued collaboration with the world body as well as other development partners with a view to moving the state forward.

UNICEF’s Communication for Development Consultant, Bauchi Office, Mr. Seyi Nubi said the ongoing Yellow fever campaign do not undermine the sustenance of routine immunization geared towards boosting children’s immunity.

In a vote of thanks, the Village Head of Tirwun, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his numerous developmental projects particularly in the health sector and appealed to the state government to construct a PHC in Kuitum community to reduce the suffering of people in the and its surroundings.
